Kansas City is buzzing with excitement as several new attractions and developments are set to enhance our cityscape. From iconic landmarks to vibrant neighborhoods, there’s something for everyone to discover. Let’s take a closer look at the upcoming new things in Kansas City:

1. Pennway Point

In late August 2024, Kansas City will have a new district; Pennway Point KC! 🎡

Pennway Point has been under construction since 2022. The family entertainment district has a 170-foot-tall Ferris wheel with all-weather heated gondolas right beside I-35, before the Southwest Boulevard and West Pennway.

The family entertainment park will include restaurants and bars in addition to the Ferris wheel, an outdoor “tailgate” park with yard games, and a permanent home for the LUMI neon museum curated by Nick Vedros.

The 100-year-old former Carter Waters building will open as a mixed-use space with a restaurant and a rooftop patio.

2. A New West Bottoms

SomeraRoad recently released a new video outlining more details on the $527 million redevelopment plan for the West Bottoms. Here’s what’s planned:

3. 18th and Vine

We're excited about the upcoming arrival of the 18th Street Pedestrian Mall, set to transform the heart of the 18th & Vine District with an additional $1M approved for improvements on The Paseo, connecting and expanding the project.

4. Riverfront

Port KC has released renderings for the $800 million redevelopment of the Berkley Riverfront that will neighbor CPKC Stadium. The development will include office, retail, and residential space and will be built in phases over the next 10 years.

5. Barney Allis Plaza

Kansas City officials approved a $119.8 million funding plan to demolish and replace the crumbling Barney Allis Plaza.

Out with the Old: The 69-year-old Barney Allis Plaza garage is set to be demolished and rebuilt into a 583-space garage covered by a public green space. The current garage has had its lowest level closed for nearly four years due to safety concerns.

In with the New: The new plans are part of a wider effort to expand green space and better connect downtown attractions. 

The Barney Allis Plaza is within walking distance to the convention center, Power and Light District, and the upcoming South Loop Link over I-670.

The garage was scheduled for permanent closure on April 15th with demolition beginning in May.
